Sometimes we are faced with very difficult par 3's. They may require us to use a club that we may not be as accurate with, like a long iron or a fairway wood.
The green may be guarded with deep bunkers, out of bounds or water hazards making the penalty for not being on the green and salvaging a par or bogey much more challenging.
If you feel you are
facing a difficult shot and you don't feel confident that you can safely be on the green in regulation you may want to consider taking a club you are much more confident and accurate with out of bag and
lay up. If you have a strong short game you can still get on the green in two (or chip it in) and have a shot at birdie, par or worst case situation a bogey.
This may be a better
percentage shot, this way you avoid the risk and danger of posting a dreaded "other" score. Never forget the object of the game is...to get the ball in the hole in as few strokes as possible!
