Chipping

This shot may come in handy when you have to get the ball up but with very little green to work with.

Set up with your feet very close together with the ball in the center of your stance and your hands in front of your body.  Open the clubface of your most lofted club.

Now try to use your wrists only and flip your hands. Try not to use or swing your arms at all, it's a hands only shot.  Let the club slide right under the ball.  The ball should pop straight up with minimal roll.

This may be a valuable shot to have in your bag but don't try it on the course without practicing it first.

To hit the ball crisply on a chip shot we must strike the ball with a steep downward angle of attack.  In a good set up for a chip shot, your weight should start more towards the target side and finish in that same position.

You can try practicing by leaning your target side leg into a chair, bench or anything solid including your friend or instructor! From that position start hitting some chip shots and see how much better your contact will be.
